Depending on how many possessions you have and how big they are, you could ask for help from friends & family or hire a car or van, hire a “man with a van”, or organise a full removals service.
If you’re hiring services:
- 📅 Start planning at least a couple of weeks before you move to ensure there is availability.
- ⭐ Make sure to get multiple quotes and compare verified reviews.
- 💸 If you have flexibility on the day you move, remember weekends may be more expensive than weekdays.
- Suitable for: Smaller moves, local relocations, or if you're on a tight budget. Note that there can be minimum age limits for hiring.
- Cost: Starting from £10 an hour, this is usually the cheapest option but requires more physical work and time.
- Suitable for: Small to medium-sized moves, or when you need some help but want to keep costs down.
- Process: A man with a van service typically includes the driver’s help in loading and unloading. Some services might offer additional helpers for an extra fee.
- Cost: One man with a van costs £35-90 an hour, but some have a minimum booking time of 2 hours so make sure to check that. Having 3 men can cost up to £145 an hour.
- Suitable for: Larger moves, long-distance relocations, or if you prefer a stress-free experience.
- Process: A full-service removal company handles everything – packing, loading, transportation, unloading, and sometimes even unpacking.
- Additional Services: They often offer additional services like temporary storage, special handling for delicate items, and insurance.
- Cost: £350-2,000+. The cost depends on how much there is to move, the distance to move, location, and whether packing & unpacking is included or not.
