Once you know your budget and the different property types available to you, it’s time to start the fun part; looking at properties! There are a few different ways you can search for your perfect property:
- Use Online Property Portals: Websites like Rightmove, Zoopla, and OnTheMarket list most properties for sale in the UK. You can set up property alerts with filters, such as for price & new builds. For shared ownership specifically, see Share to Buy.
- Contact Estate Agents: Register with local estate agents. They can notify you of new listings that match your criteria before they appear online.
- Do Local Research: Explore your chosen areas personally. Visiting neighbourhoods can give you a better feel for the area than online research alone.
- Research New Build Developers: Not all developers have great reputations or are involved in New Build schemes. Read up about them online, including looking at reviews, and visit their completed projects to speak with residents.
- Hire a Property Consultant: They can search for properties for you, advise you on offer negotiation, and do the heavy lifting on organising & communicating everything after your offer is accepted. We've partnered up with Dani from Home at Last if you'd like a real-life Fairy Godmover!
